November 2024

17 players started tonight's live game. This included one new player (welcome Patti). As usual, everyone made it to the first break (for snacks).

Then a few dropped out before the second break.

There were still two tables running when the third break hit and the end of re-entry.

Once again it was Yigit calling all players and generally hitting every flop. His luck couldn't hold and he dropped out not long after reaching the final table.

Then it was a steady stream of drop-outs until there where only 4 players left. It was Zahit who had to settle for the bonus points and 4th place.

Marv held on for third, but it was David and Jim battling heads-up for the win. It was back and forth with Dave leading, then Jim. But, at the end of the night, it was David with the slightly better hand and the slightly bigger stack.

Well done!

Tony has locked up the championship, but David's win tonight puts him solidly in second place. Can anyone catch him? We'll see next month. Here's the top 5:

  1. Tony - 540 points
  2. David K - 336 points
  3. Rod - 265 points
  4. Jon - 247 points
  5. Kathy - 227 points

Tentative dates for this year: 12/7

October 2024

21 players for tonight's live game. Everyone made it to the first break. In fact, it was the middle of the 6th level before anyone busted out.

They went 2 tables for another 90 minutes, then combined into the final table during the third break.

The deck was very kind to Yigit. He would hit nearly every flop (often for 2 pairs) and would catch nearly every flush. Needless to say he came to the final table with a big stack.

But, the blinds take their toll on all and Yigit ended doubling up player after player. Of course, other players were getting blinded out or being felted as they went along.

It was Ed going out in 5th place that set the final four. Barb was next to fall. Michael repeated his third place performance from last month.

Then it was Jon's turn to get lucky. Yigit doubled him up over and over. Finally Yigit was all-in in the blinds. Then Yigit doubled and doubled again. It looked like he would comeback and take his second win.

It was not to be, as the fickle poker gods smiled upon Jon again and he won the final pot of the night to take the win.

Well done all!

Tony is still way out in front with Rod in second. Here's the top 5:

  1. Tony - 530 points
  2. Rod - 255 points
  3. David K - 241 points
  4. Jon - 237 points
  5. Kathy - 217 points

Tentative dates for this year: 11/2, 12/7

September 2024

A whopping 23 players attended the September live game. There were some new faces and a few we haven't seen in a while.

With 3 starting tables, there were very different styles of play. One table had 2 re-entries before the second table even broke into the 5,000 chips!

Still, everyone made it to the first break. Most made it to the second break with a few declining to reenter.

And there were still 2 tables at the third break. By then the blinds were eating up the stacks and it seemed there was at least one all-in every hand.

When we got down to the final table, Michael (welcome back) had built up a real big stack and it looked like he was going the distance.

But, it was Yigit taking out player after player. He left Booby in 4th place. Then eliminated Michael to end up heads-up with Barb.

Barb put up a good fight, but it seemed like it was Yigit's night.

Well done!

There wasn't any real change in the top 5 players. And, even though Tony went out early, it seems like we are just playing for 2nd place.

Here's the top 5:

  1. Tony - 520 points
  2. Rod - 245 points
  3. David K - 241 points
  4. Kathy - 207 points
  5. Jerry - 185 points

Tentative dates for this year: 10/5, 11/2, 12/7

August 2024

August 10, 2024

19 players for tonight's live game. We had a great turnout despite not being able to have our usual dining fare.

Everyone made it through the first 2 blind levels, but then the players started dropping out. We had 13 re-entries.

Fortunes turned when we made the final table. Big stacks shrank and small stacks grew. Finally we were down to the final 4. James scored the bonus points for 4th place. Then Yeheet (sp?) forfeited his chips to take 3rd place. That left Jerry and Tony heads-up for the win.

Jerry managed a couple of double-ups and took his first win of the season. Tony had to settle for 2nd - a place he's not used to.

Not to worry though - Tony still has a huge lead on the season race. He has more than double Rod's second place total.

Here's the top 5:

  1. Tony - 510 points
  2. Rod - 245 points
  3. David K - 231 points
  4. Kathy - 197 points
  5. Jerry - 175 points

Tentative dates for this year: 9/7, 10/5, 11/2, 12/7

July 2024

July 13, 2024

Only 12 players participated in the July live game. But, it wasn't short on action.

It wasn't until well past the first break, that we lost 2 players and was able to form the final table.

The chips were fairly well distributed and most players made long runs.

But it was when we got down to the top 4, you know Tony was in the mix. His luck ran out and we was only able to take the bonus points for 4th place.

It was then Kathy, David and Ed playing for the final spots. Chips flew around the table, but when they stopped Kathy was out in 3rd.

The heads up lasted about 15 minutes, before David was able to wear out Ed and take the win.

Here's the top 5:

  1. Tony - 443 points
  2. Rod - 235 points
  3. David K - 221 points
  4. Kathy - 187 points
  5. Zahit - 159 points

Tentative dates for this year: 8/10, 9/7, 10/5, 11/2, 12/7

June 2024

June 1, 2024

21 players made it to tonight's live game. As usual everyone made sure to survive until the dinner break 🙂 Then people started dropping out little by little.

They were down to 2 table by the second break. Then the final table just after the third break.

Bobby managed to hang on an take 4th place. Jon finished in 3rd place for his first podium of the year.

It was Dave and Tony battling for first place. But it wasn't a fair fight as Tony had most of the chips and nearly all of the luck. Dave fought hard, but it was Tony's game.

Thus, Tony extends his chip lead to nearly 200 points over second place Rod. I know it's only halfway through the season, but it seems Tony is unstoppable.

Here's the top 5:

  1. Tony - 421 points
  2. Rod - 225 points
  3. Zahit - 159 points
  4. Kathy - 153 points
  5. David K - 151 points

Tentative dates for this year: 7/13, 8/3, 9/7, 10/5, 11/2, 12/7

BONUS POKER!

Jon & Sophie are hosting a tournament (same format as mine). Their game starts at 6:00 PM on June 15th. Let him or me know if you'd like to attend.

Plus - I'm considering another Hybrid tournament on June 29th. This is the 6 hour cash game. It starts at 1 and dinner is provided. There's also a prize for the player who rakes in the most profit. Let me know if you're interested.

May 2024

May 4, 2024 - quads night

15 players made the live game tonight. As usual, everyone made it to the first break for the great food break!

Then things picked up and players started to drop out. Flopping quads helped the players bust out. We had at least 4 sets of quads! They were down to the final table just after the second break.

Six players made it to the third break. The blinds went up quickly. Of course Tony was still in it until he busted out in 4th place.

Rod was the next one out taking third place. Then it was Kathy & Zahit heads-up for the win. They battles for nearly 30 minutes, but at the end of the night, it was Kathy taking the win!

Tony still leads, but Rod closed the gap a little:

  1. Tony - 306 points
  2. Rod - 215 points
  3. Zahit - 149 points
  4. Kathy - 143 points
  5. Lori - 110 points

Tentative dates for this year: 6/1, 7/13, 8/3, 9/7, 10/5, 11/2, 12/7

April 2024

April 13, 2024

We had 17 players for the April live game. This included 2 new faces. (Welcome Kathy Cr and Andrew). The play went very deep and we still had 2 tables at the end of the entry period.

Then the blinds started taking their toll and players started dropping out. It was Marv finishing in 4th place with the bonus points. Lisa had her first ever podium finish for her third place spot.

But it was Rod and Tony with a rematch of their January heads-up battle. The chips flew back and forth and both players had a very real shot at the win.

Tony was not able to repeat and Rod won this time to make them even on heads-up matches. This moves Rod into second place overall, but Tony still extended his lead of the rest of us.

Here's the top 5:

  1. Tony - 281 points
  2. Rod - 175 points
  3. Lori - 110 points
  4. Zahit - 94 points
  5. David K. - 68 points

Jon and Sophie are hosting a tournament (just like my game) on Saturday, April 27th. Starts at 6 PM, just like our usual game. Let him or me know if you can make it.

Tentative dates for this year: 6/1, 7/13, 8/3, 9/7, 10/5, 11/2, 12/7

March 2024

March 2, 2024

First, Barb told me yesterday that Jim's neutrophil level is up to 50. Still far below the 500 he needs to be released, but it's a lot better than 0. They've also been able to help with his pain management. He's in good spirits and appreciates all the thoughts and prayers.

14 players showed up for the March live game. A lot of good play resulted in only 1 re-buy until the 5th or 6th level.

Then things went quickly and they were down to the final table before the 3rd break.

They continued to drop as Lori kept waking up (sometimes literally) with a good hand. Her pairs either held up or turned into sets to give her the win.

Tony was one of Lori's victims when she hit a set on the river to send him out in 5th. Jon went out 4th, then Lori took out her husband (Dave) in third place.

It was Sophie (playing for Anne) who went out 2nd giving Lori her first win of the year.

It's the first time someone other than Tony has won - so there's hope for the rest of us. Here's the top 5:

  1. Tony - 220 points
  2. Lori - 100 points
  3. Zahit - 84 points
  4. Rod - 70 points
  5. Jim - 60 points

Jon and Sophie are hosting another hybrid game Saturday, March 23rd. This is a 6-hour cash game with a jackpot awarded to the winner. For more details of to secure your spot contact Jon or me. (Dinner will be provided!)

Tentative dates for this year: 4/13, 5/4, 6/1, 7/13, 8/3, 9/7, 10/5, 11/2, 12/7

February 2024

18 people showed up for the 2nd live game of the year. 16 of them made it to the second break.

By the third break, they were down to a single table. The stacks were growing and shrinking at an alarming rate.

It wasn't long before they were down to 4 players. Kathy went out in 4 the score the bonus points. It was James (new this season) finishing in 3rd. Then a long heads-up battle between Zahit and Tony. It really could have gone either way, but Tony continued his run of good fortune and took the second win of the year.

Tony now has nearly 3 times the second place points. It's only the second game, but Tony's going to be hard to catch!

Well Done!

Here are the current standings:

  1. Tony - 210 points
  2. Zahit - 74 points
  3. Rod - 70 points
  4. Jim - 60 points
  5. James - 56 points

January 2024

We had 20 players for the first live game of 2024. This included 3 new players!

Nearly everyone made it to the 2 hour mark, but then the blinds took their toll. We were down to 5 players just after the 3rd break.

Sophie ended up in 5th place. Then Brandy went out in 4th. It went three-handed for quite a while, Jim started with a big stack, but spent it all doubling up his opponents. He took 3rd.

Rod and Tony went heads-up for about 20 minutes, but then Tony's luck kicked in and he took the win!

Looks like Tony is started right up where he left off last year.

Well Done!

Here are the current standings:

  1. Tony - 110 points
  2. Rod - 70 points
  3. Jim - 50 points
  4. Brandy - 30 points
  5. Everyone elsewho attended - 10 points

Finally - don't forget to sign up for the WSOP challenge if you are interested. It's $60 for the year and can be paid anytime. We have a good group already, but there's always room for more. If we get enough - we can send 3 players.
