We ended the year with 15 players. There was a lot of drama, with a number of players having of shot at knocking Barb out of first place. Barb did well, amassing a big stack and it looked like she was unstoppable. Then Lori came on strong knocking me out (twice) to take the bounty and putting a large dent in Barb’s stack. She went out shortly after, leaving Jon and Jim with a chance to catch her. Jim went out fourth. Marv held on for third. This left Jon and Lori. Jon was fighting to tie Barb and Lori wanted the win. Lori prevailed to take her first win and Jon had to settle for second.
With Jon’s second, Barb took first place for the 2011 season. She’ll have the target on her back next year (and the bounty on her head).
But it left Jon, Jim, and Ben in a three-way tie for second. So it came down to the tie-break which is the amount of money earned in the year. (not counting bounties). Jon ended up in fourth. Jim took third and Ben held out for second (even though he wasn’t there).
Jon did manage to take the online championship!
Another good finish for the year.
There will be a couple of minor rule changes for next year.
1) There have been a few times when a player may have been shorted during the color-up (I do my best but I am only human). So, I encourage you to stay with your chips until they have been colored up. If you leave before your old chips are taken, then you will have to accept the chips as they are paid out.
2) I’m changing the points system a little next year. For 2011 it was 1 point for playing, +1 for third, +2 for second and +4 for first. Unfortunately, this didn’t take into account that it is more difficult to take first against 15 players than against 7. So, for 2012, each player will receive 10 points for playing, third will receive 2 points for each player that played that month, second will receive 3 points for each player, and first will receive 5 points for each player. So the top 3 in an 8-player tournament will receive 50 (8 * 5 + 10), 34 (8 * 3 + 10), and 26 (8 * 2 + 10) for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. They would receive 90 (16 * 5 + 10), 58 (16 * 3 + 10), and 42 (16 * 2 + 10) in a 16-player tournament.
The online rules will be updated with this information before the Jan game.
Also, as is the custom, trophies will be awarded at the January game. Make sure you’re there!
Finally, each game next month will have a “theme” (crazy hats, fabulous footwear, super shades, etc) it is purely for fun and participation is optional. I’m still a few months short, so send any suggestions you might have.
Final results:
11 players this month and I think everyone made it to the second break. After that the chips started to fly! Bob pulled a “Marv” and managed to squeak into 3rd with one chip left! This left Jim and Jon heads-up for first place. Jim had a good lead, but Jon had been gaining on him all night. In the end though Jim was just too strong and Jon had to settle for second. Good job Jim!
With one game left in the season, there are still 4 players who can take the championship:
Jon rounds out the top 5.
I’m out of the running so there will be a new champion for 2011
Show up on the 3rd and see who it is.
Again, thanks to everyone who helped out this month. Kathy’s on the mend and I am confident she’ll be able to play next month.
There were only 10 players this month, including one making his first appearance at our club. Welcome Steve! The play was good as usual and it took quite a while for two players to drop out so we could determine the final table. Then the chips shifted quickly. Ben had a huge lead, but still finished in fourth. Steve (the new guy) was able pay for the gas for his 1-hour ride home by coming in third. That left Jon & I to battle it out for 1st. He used a combination of good cards, good luck, and good play to take the victory (he was too good).
None of the previous top five in points finished in the money this month, giving the rest of us a chance to catch up. With only two months left, there are six players who could walk away with the championship!
Here are the top 5:
I’m the other player who could take the championship. I’ll need a miracle, but stranger things have happened. Make sure you’re there to see the exciting finish. I suspect there’ll be a good turnout for November so reserve your seat early!
First I want to thank everyone who helped out this month. Kathy does a lot and I was really struggling with her being sick. Thanks to those who helped carry chairs and set up the kitchen – you know who you are.
There were 13 players this month and most of them made it to the third break! Then people started dropping out fast. Jim held out for a 3rd place finish. Barb did him one better and finished in second. But it was Ben with the big win. This makes the points race a little closer (for them)

The rest of us are pretty far back. It looks like one of these will be our champion for next year. Of course, there’s still the monthly pots to be won and I’m not quite giving up yet. Hopefully Kathy will be feeling well enough to play next month and who knows how that’ll affect the game. Should be interesting.
We nearly had a full house this month. There were a number of people who dropped out at the last moment. Please register early for the October game and make sure you have a spot!
We had 16 players for the August game. I even had to turn away two players! I hate to do that but 16 players in the max! (There’s plenty of room at the Thursday night online games). Barb finished in 3rd place so she remains atop the leader-board. I managed a second, but still had to buy breakfast. That’s right, Kathy won for the second month in a row! Can she do it again in September? Make sure you reserve your place so you’ll be there.

The ladies are starting to run off with it, but there’s still time!
We had 13 players for July. We also had 2 people make the money who hadn’t placed yet this year. Andrew held on to third place for his first cash. Tony took his first cash of the year with a solid 2nd place. But it was Kathy who came out on top with 1st place (and a breakfast).
Here are the top 5:
The June game was another hard-fought battle. We had thirteen players who all wanted to move up in the rankings. Harry started out very strong, and ended up with a very solid third place. Lori played well and took second place in her first game. Watch out for her! But it was Marv with another of his “chip and a chair”, holding on by his fingernails, come-back. He re-bought with only 4 players left an parlayed it into his first win of the year.
